Tutorial: tea bag
Do you want to sew a tea bag?
Cut out a fabric rectangle of 12×10 inches. 12 inch. And cut another rectangle of 2,75×10 inch of the plastic. I just bought clear plastic at a fabric shop. I’ve used a “foot” in seam allowance - but the extra seams are sewn a couple of mm in.

Sew the plastic to the fabric - right sides together. Since I don’t have a foot for plastic I keep the paper on, so that it’ll run smoothly.

Before I sew the other side on I fold the plastic out and sew another seam a couple of mm in from the plastic so that it’ll be nice and flat.

Here I’ve sewn both sides to the fabric, and am ready to sew the extra seam on to keep it flat.

As I progress sewing inside the tube, the tube comes up…

Now, try to locate the middle front (easy- just fold the plastic bit in two) and middle back (just keep folding after you found the middle front). Can you see the plastic up in the right corner for my tube. And I’ve marked the middle back with a pin.
Now fold it like this and secure it with a couple of pins.

Make sure to iron so you get nice creases. Use the creases to fold - so that the seam in bottom matches the crease. Measure 1 inch up from the tip, and make a mark. Do this on both sides.

Here you can see I’ve sewn on both sides, and cut the leftover corner on one side. Make sure not to cut to close to your seam. You might want to zigzag over it to make sure it doesn’t rip later.

Almost done - but some finishing touches to go.

Press. If you have a paperbag - you can tell how I have pressed the fabric. Now I sew a seam very, very close to the fold - all four of them. More pictures follow:

All four seams in the fold sewn.

I also made a seam in the back, at the bottom, close to fold to make it stand better. Fold down the top twice and sew around.
