Fall flowers

September 16th, 2009

I don’t know if it is the wonderful first days of fall or the equally wonderful last days of summer that is here. If I get an opportunity to sit outside in the warm summer sunshine this is what I work on:

When I left this alone for a couple of minutes the hexagons where flying around outside … LOL.

Pictures from my garden:

Julekalender

September 15th, 2009

I have sewn a green three with 24 red heart buttons. I wrap christmas ornaments which we unwrap one each day. After the unwrapping we hang it on the three - I really, really enjoy this tradition even though it is a challenge to find enough ornaments. The girls really should have enough ornaments for when they have their own three… as they each get 12 new ornaments each year…

A new table runner in the making

September 14th, 2009

I made some pillows before the summer, but I didn’t have any table runner to match.

I suddenly got the idea of circles, and as thought so done:

I like the circles, but I don’t like the finished look of the circles. I think I need to have another seam around them … or do you have a suggestion?

I’ve fixed it. You should be able to comment now. Please do.

A walk in the neighborhood

September 13th, 2009

Last weekend we went geocaching in our neighborhood. It’s nice to get to know the area we live in better. We tried to find this geocache in the winter, but due to the snow we didn’t find it. This time around we found it quickly.

This stone looked like it had it’s own light:

The train used to go here, but that must be a very, very long time ago. Now it’s a nice walk.

And since I don’t have any quilty thing to blog about, a picture from my window in the kitchen.

Grandmother’s garden

September 12th, 2009

I wanted to work on my grandmother’s garden quilt which is for myself. Life got in the way. I got hooked making a hexagon pattern making this for my mother in law. In the picture it is not done yet, but it gives you the idea. For my own quilt I’ve chosen a sligthly different alternative.

I really like to take pictures, but don’t do it very often. Today we decided to go to my mom’s house and pick lingonberries. I brought all our cameras - I love it when the girls take pictures as well. They usually have a different perspective than I do.

I love this old berry picker. Of course the more modern pickers are probably more efficient, but I enjoyed the process and we picked at least a bucket and half of lingonberries.

I love this picture. It might not be a good one or even that interesting. But she is concentrating on taking pictures of a mushroom.

Can you see the spiderweb around the berries? Is it a good picture? I think I like it. There wasn’t much time to experiment, we were heading to our picknick area to drink hot chocolate and eat cakes.

Ahh, this girl wouldn’t stop being pissed off because we weren’t going swimming. So I told her she could, but that she had to leave all her clothes on the beach and that we didn’t have a towel. That did not stop her - it did stop her little sister, though. Once she was in the water, she wouldn’t come up. Neither me nor T really likes bathing and swimming - so where those swimming genes comes from is a mystery. Nobody goes swimming in September…

A new discovery

Check out this store: Quiltespesialisten. The picture is from there.

Stitchery is something I’ve been wanting to try, maybe not angels but I do like the style.

Have a great weekend.

A fabric basket

September 10th, 2009

ny-bolle-til-badet.jpg

I’ve been meaning to make fabric baskets for awhile. There are so many great tutorials out here. You might want to check this or this. I wanted to have a nice seam to close up the gap left open as I turned it outside out. I thought my sewing machine was sick, it was sewing such a strange seam. But I love it - and I have a new seam to use. My tip: try all your different seams on your sewing machine.

Look at these. Best friends walking home from their first day at school. Happy to be in the same class. Feeling so grown up, now they are school children.

Look at her, my oldest starting fourth grade. Isn’t she looking so grown up and beautiful?

Emily’s quilt

September 9th, 2009

emilys-topp.jpg

I’m back!! I haven’t been idle even if I haven’t been blogging. What you see here is Emily’s quilt. Right now I’m exchanging the four extra white blocks with something that will fit better. However I have forgotten the measurements so that’ll be a challenge… And I’m working on a grandmothers garden quilt for myself.

Mistake

January 29th, 2009

I just read in another blog (yes, I’m spending way much more time reading other blogs than updating mine):

Nothing is a mistake - there is no win and no fail

There is only make.

I think that sums it up. I can just make.
