Do as mommy does

October 14th, 2009

Two sick kids and a mom with a creative urge - what to do? Make cards. Luckily I have a lots of supplies and they can use whatever they want. Just look at our creative mess - and the nice cards we made. My mom ordered some cards - so the strange numbering is for her. And my guess is, there are more grandparents interested in cards by their grandchildren. (Numbering is clockwise - left to right).

A little bit of this and that

October 8th, 2009

I love these dolls. They are everywhere these days. I had to have this bag, bought at Søstrene Grene. Of course it was filled with ribbons and lots of other lovely things and it was much better than a plastic bag. Last Sunday I used it for going to our sewing studio. Then it was filled with a book of patterns for kids clothes, ribbons and lots of pearls for Emily.

And of course I had to bring my sewing machine to the studio, and some fabric. I love my sewing machine bag. I use it every time I need to transport my sewing machine. It feels so safe.

My mother in law have knitted the most lovely vest for E. It is so soft to the touch, maybe I have to steal it? Grete, I’m sorry the picture isn’t any good. I’ll try to get E to model with it. I recommend her blog. Go check it out.

Banana bread update!!

October 4th, 2009

The banana bread was super duper ultra good. It’s not my recipe, but you can find it here and try it yourself.

This is what is left… but I guess they (everybody) would have eaten it all if they were allowed.

Vacation - and a sneak peek at “our” new studio

October 4th, 2009

We are just back from our fall vacation. It was just what we needed. It was absolutely great. Almost no TV and no computers (except from our iPhones, of course). The girls didn’t miss any of it. They colored in their coloring books and they played outside. We went on small hiking trips, visited a nearby small town and did one longer hike. Longer, meaning just long enough for a six year old. We also went to Langedrag. I’ll do a separate post on that.

091004.jpg

I usually don’t do pictures of me, but here I am on our way to the cabin. The girls got to climb the rocks down to the lake and we got to strecth our legs.

091004-meteoritt.jpg

This is from Norways only know metorite site, Gardnos. We went there not knowing what to expect, and it turned out to be a nice hike and an interesting story. It turns out that appr. 650 million years ago a huge meteoritt hit this area and made a 5 km crater. They only found out 10-15 years ago about the meteroritt because they were drilling a tunnel, and their tool kept braking because the mountain were so incredible hard.

Just look at the colors. I love fall colors. But winter is coming to the mountains and it was snowing the day we left for home.

“Our” new studio. I say “our” because really, it’s not mine, but I’m lucky enough to be invited by Hilde (in the picture) to share it with her. We plan to sew at least one or two afternoons a week there.

Hilde has done so much to this room, I have to think of something that I can contribute. Today we tried it out, Hilde sewed a dress for her girl and I started two pants for my girls. And to sum it up I made bananabread - well, it is still in the oven. Lucky for me, I didn’t check how much flour I had before I started. This is how much I have left after baking. I guess I should put flour on our grocery list:

I love going to the theater

September 27th, 2009

but we seldom do. Probably about once or twice a year. This fall we have three plays lined up, and all with the kids.

First is “Pinocchio”! Youngest is watching Disney’s version right now. It’s so sweet. Then my girls and I are going to see “Jul i Blåfjell” (Christmas in the blue mountains) at Oslo Nye with my oldest class. I think we are going back stage as well to have a look around. And then in December, my oldest, my mum and I are going to the see “Nøtteknekkeren”! (The nutcracker) in the Opera. It was something I wanted to do last year, but the they sold out really quick. I can’t wait!!

I remember as a little girl, my dad would pack up the car or bus with all the kids from my neigbourhood and take us to the theater before christmas. It was very special.. I still remember being scared of one of the characters - a fox, one year.

Buying a sewing box

September 25th, 2009

We had a nice long summer, and one of the things I finally had time to do was go to the Salvation Army store to look around. I found this sewing box with the former owners things in it. I was so thrilled I could hardly wait to check it out.

When I opened it, it was in a terrible mess. I cleaned it up and sorted through it. I found a wedding ring, old lottery tickets from 1968, an old bill from the 60s, bus ticket for the blue omnibusses from maybe 40s, death announcement from 1962, bank receipt from 06, a song made for her 26th birthday, a work list from the county 05, betting tickets from 1960 with names like “Nessegutten”.., movie ticket (old, undated) and lots of other things. The patterns in the previous post are of course from the sewing box.
I want to make a display of some of the things in there - most can’t be used for anything - but is very beautiful.

And remember - if you want one of those patterns, let me know.

A give away

Do you want one of these? Leave me a comment before Oct 5th - on any post.

Ribbons

September 20th, 2009

Look at all my ribbons.

0919-lace.jpg

Before you get too jealous I’ll tell you about it. I have 100s of about 8 cm of all kinds of different ribbons. My step mother wanted to import ribbons wholesale and start selling ribbons on the Internet and got many samples. It didn’t go that way and I got all the samples. I’m thinking of using them when making cards and when sewing. I was thinking of doing a scrap project where I would sew one ribbon to each scrap. Not a good idea - and I didn’t start it. Since there is only one of each (there are some duplicats but not many) I use them for decorations on small sewn items.

I get so many visitors. I am so excited, I had never thought anybody would notice I was back. Please leave a comment, it would really make my day - and if you have a good idea for using my small ribbons I think I would clap my hands and jump up and down.

Hearts

September 19th, 2009

I love to sew with my scraps. It’s more rewarding than sewing with large pieces of fabric. I like to do that to, but there is something with scraps that feels more genuine - I don’t know. Since I’m using new fabric the genuine part is just in my head. Real genuine would be to use scraps from clothes and linen. So I’m not trying to say anything about other peoples quilts or sewing, just my own. I sew because it makes me feel good and helps me relax - and I get to do it my way.

Right now I’m sewing hearts for my girls. At least I am today - maybe I want to sew something else tomorrow.
